NYC KOGI CENTRAL ENDORSES FORMER GOVERNOR FOR SENATE, BACKS YOUTHFUL APC CHAIRMANSHIP ASPIRANTS

The Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Kogi Central Zone, has endorsed the senatorial aspiration of the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, and resolved to mobilise support for youthful APC chairmanship aspirants across the five local government areas of the district.

The resolutions were adopted at the Congress's maiden zonal meeting held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Okene Local Government Council Secretariat.
The meeting brought together members of the NYC Kogi Central structure and distinguished State executives from Kogi East and Kogi West Senatorial Districts to deliberate on youth mobilisation, political participation, leadership development and sustainable development in the region.

In his opening remarks, the Vice Chairman reaffirmed the Congress's commitment to implementing the five-point agenda outlined by the State leadership during its inauguration. He urged all coordinators to remain proactive and committed, noting that the organisation's credibility in Kogi Central would largely depend on the quality and impact of its programmes.
The Okene Local Government Coordinator, who hosted the meeting, expressed appreciation to the State executives for their participation and emphasised the importance of youth mobilisation in the prevailing political climate. He subsequently moved a motion seeking the endorsement of youth-friendly APC chairmanship aspirants across Okene, Okehi, Ogori-Magongo, Adavi and Ajaokuta Local Government Areas.

In its resolutions, the Congress declared its support for Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello's aspiration to represent Kogi Central Senatorial District in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, citing his contributions to youth development and the overall development of Kogi State. The Congress also pledged to canvass support for youthful APC chairmanship candidates who have identified with its ideals and objectives.
Beyond political mobilisation, the Congress announced plans to organise the Kogi Central Strategic Youth Colloquium, a platform designed to engage youth leaders and promote responsible leadership, peaceful elections and a drug-free society.

The proposed initiative is expected to involve the State Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), distinguished Toastmasters and experienced heads of non-governmental organisations, alongside leaders of various socio-cultural groups in Ebiraland.

The Congress also appealed to the State Governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to direct the contractors handling the dualisation of the Kabba Junction–Zariagi Road to accelerate work on the project.

According to the Congress, improving the road would ease travel during the Yuletide season, encourage indigenes to return home and facilitate greater participation by eligible voters in the 2027 general elections.

As part of its resolutions, the Congress approved a strategic courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Tijani Muhammed Anaje, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, and other traditional rulers across Ebiraland. The proposed visit is intended to pay homage, seek royal blessings and strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions on youth development, peaceful coexistence and community development.

The Congress also resolved to recognise and induct distinguished Ebira leaders, philanthropists and veteran youth ambassadors as Patrons, Matrons and Advisers to provide guidance, mentorship and strategic support for its activities.

In addition, the Congress appealed to political office holders and other stakeholders to support youth empowerment, capacity building and sustainable development initiatives. It also encouraged young people across Kogi Central to apply for the NYC–Kogi Youth Remote Work Training Programme through the designated application link: https://bit.ly/4xSEIao.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening the Congress's presence across the five local government areas and promoting constructive youth participation in governance and community development.

The next zonal meeting is scheduled to hold in Ajaokuta Local Government Area in November 2026, with the specific date and venue to be announced in due course.
