How much is really enough?

How much is really enough?

By Jesugbemi Mercy Anuoluwapo

Many Nigerians quietly asks whether the pursuit of a better life has become a never ending race. Many young nigerians begin with a thought everyday: How do I make enough money? Money to eat, money for transport, money for bills, money to support the family, money to save and spend, money to live fancy and comfortable. There is a story of a girl named blessing.

Blessing is a university student who has no parents but had a brother to cater for, including herself. She is a 200 level student and her brother is in secondary school. She pays his school fees and her's too, clothings, bills and so on by herself. She does all kinds of jobs just to provide for her brother and herself. On a beautiful morning, blessing was at her place of work because she had no cass for that day then a customer came and saw blessing, he asked her for her age and other things then he went further by asking her that if she was given 5 million,is it enough for her to live the life she dreams of? She thought hard before she could come up with an answer. She replied "how much is really enough?" No amount is really enough because as the world goes by new things are being invented, produced, and created so nothing is enough.

A person who once prayed for a stable income starts dreaming of a higher salary. A student who just entered the University will think of how better or comfortable they want to live in school because they see how others are living they also want to be like them. A person who who lives in a modest apartment starts dreaming or imagining a bigger house for themselves and cars too. For some families, earning more is not about luxury or being comfortable,it is all about survival. Even the rich still wants to be richer so no human is contended with whatever they have the dream to become bigger and better than what they are presently. Blessing who sees her friends living an extravagant and luxurious life will start dreaming to be one herself one day and start questioning herself. What I'm doing wrong? Why haven't I achieved this? Do they have two heads? Comparing her reality with someone else's life. Every human wants a better and comfortable life for themselves which makes most of them to work hard and pursue opportunities to achieve their goal.

The desire to succeed can lead most humans to disconnect from their families,be mentally exhausted and forget to enjoy or experience the present. Some humans after achieving the goal they want, a new set goal to achieve kicks in so nothing is really enough in this world that we're living today. Success should not be measured entirely by possessions. A person can have expensive things and not be happy about it while another person can have fewer things and still be happy and fulfilled but still desire improvement. Another example; in a class of 85 students there are 10 overall best students, between those 10 there are students who is happy with their academic result but still desire to improve more and far better than others. People will still desire to grow more from the point where they are to a better and comfortable level. No amount is ever or really enough in the world.
