The Kogi State Accountant General, Dr. Habibat Oyiza Tijjani Onumoko, has called on women, parents, and guardians to place greater emphasis on girl-child education, describing it as a critical foundation for sustainable development and national progress.
Dr. Habibat made the appeal through the President of the Fair Win Women Advancement Association (FAWWASS), Hon. Bilikisu Aliyu, during an engagement with women in GRA, Okene today.
She stressed that educating the girl child goes beyond personal achievement, noting that it contributes significantly to poverty reduction, improved healthcare outcomes, and stronger family and community values.
According to her, every girl deserves access to quality education irrespective of her social or economic background.
The Accountant General urged parents to support the academic aspirations of their daughters and create a conducive environment that encourages learning and personal growth. She also called on community leaders, religious institutions, and other stakeholders to collaborate in removing barriers that prevent girls from accessing education.
Dr. Habibat described investment in girl-child education as one of the most effective strategies for building a prosperous, peaceful, and productive society.
She noted that educated women are better positioned to raise informed families, contribute meaningfully to economic growth, and drive positive social change.
Reaffirming her commitment to the advancement of women and girls, she pledged continued support for initiatives that promote equal educational opportunities and protect the rights and welfare of the girl child.
She further encouraged women to serve as mentors and role models, inspiring young girls to pursue their dreams, maximize their potential, and become future leaders through the transformative power of education.
