Group Passes Vote of Confidence on Kogi Accountant-General, Urges Public to Verify Facts Before Speaking in Media
A socio-cultural group under the aegis of Ebira Concerned Women Association (ECWA) has passed a vote of confidence on the Kogi State Accountant-General, Dr Habibat Oyiza Tijjani Onumoko, commending her commitment to public service.
In a Radio program at Jatto 102.7 FM, the group described Dr Habibat as a diligent and trustworthy public officer who has consistently demonstrated accountability in the management of state funds.
According to the association’s coordinator, Mrs Hajara Suberu, the Accountant-General’s record of service, especially in ensuring timely payment of salaries and prudent handling of public resources, deserves commendation rather than baseless criticism.
Reacting to the defamation allegation against the Accountant General made by one Abdulhamid, the group appealed to youths to use social media responsibly.
“We are appalled by the rising trend of misinformation and character assassination in the media space, especially on social media. Some individuals speak without facts, spreading falsehoods for personal or political gain,” Mrs Hajara stated.
She cautioned members of the public to verify information before making public statements, stressing that unfounded allegations against dedicated public servants like the Accountant-General do more harm than good to the collective image of the state.
The group urged the people of Kogi State, especially youths, to embrace responsible civic engagement and avoid being tools in the hands of mischief-makers.
“As mothers and stakeholders in the development of our land, we call for truth, fairness, and respect in public discourse. Let us build, not destroy,” she added.
The women also used the opportunity to call on parents and guardians in Kogi State to prioritize proper home training and moral education of their children. They emphasized the importance of raising children with discipline as a long term solution to societal challenge such as youth restivemess.
The women reaffirmed their support for the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and expressed hope that competent officials like Dr Habibat Oyiza will continue to drive progress and good governance in Kogi State.
While applauding the government for engaging the youths in productive ventures, they charges the government to initiate more programs to further engage and empower them.
Members of the Ebira Concerned Women Association, residing both within and outside the state, remain dedicated to contributing meaningfully to the development and progress of Ebiraland.
