'They Once Said It Was a Wheelbarrow; Today, Four Trailers Cannot Carry Ogori/Magongo Women on Political Outing' — FAWWASS Ogori/Magongo Chapter Tells Critics
Members of the FairWin Women Advancement Association (FAWWASS), Ogori/Magongo Chapter, have declared that women in the local government area are now more politically conscious, better organized and fully prepared to play a decisive role in the political process.
The women made the declaration during the chapter’s recent meeting in Ogori, Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, where they reflected on the growing political awareness and participation of women across the community.
Speaking at the meeting, a member of the association, Mrs. Hannah Mosugu, recalled that there was a time when some individuals underestimated the political consciousness and collective strength of women in Ogori/Magongo, reducing their political relevance to the infamous “wheelbarrow” narrative.
According to her, the situation has changed significantly.
“There was a time when some people underestimated the political consciousness and strength of women in Ogori/Magongo, dismissing our collective political value with the infamous ‘wheelbarrow’ narrative.
“But times have changed. Today, the women of Ogori/Magongo are more politically conscious, better organized, better informed and fully aware of our power as critical stakeholders in the political process.”
She stressed that the women are no longer prepared to remain on the sidelines of political affairs, noting that they are determined to participate actively and meaningfully in decisions affecting their community.
Another member, Mrs. Mohammed Rebecca, popularly known as Blacky, said the political strength of Ogori/Magongo women can no longer be dismissed.
“The women of Ogori/Magongo are no longer a political afterthought. We are a formidable force to reckon with. Four trailers may not even be enough to convey the women of Ogori/Magongo when we decide to come out in our numbers for political outings.”
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, Mr. Williams Alao, said political strength should not be measured solely by numerical turnout, but also by the level of awareness, organization, loyalty and determination demonstrated by citizens.
He encouraged the women to take full advantage of the FAWWASS platform to develop themselves, strengthen their capacity and become more active participants in community and political affairs.
In her remarks, Mrs. Dupe Abisoye described FAWWASS as an important platform that has created opportunities for women to grow, organize and excel politically.
She commended the Accountant-General of Kogi State, Chief Dr. Habibat Oyiza Tijjani Onumoko, for her continued support for women and her efforts toward creating opportunities for women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the development of Kogi State.
The meeting ended with a special prayer session for the success, protection and continued good health of the Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo; former Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello; and the Accountant General of the State, Chief Dr. Habibat Oyiza Tijjani Onumoko.
The prayers also sought divine guidance, wisdom and greater success for the leaders as they continue to contribute to the development and progress of Kogi State.
