CRISIS RESOLVED, UNITY REAFFIRMED AS EYC SETS FOR A NEW CHAPTER

29/05/2026

For months, the Ebira Youth Congress went through a painful moment. What began as disagreements among its leaders grew into a parallel leadership claim by some Executive Council members. Soon, those disagreements moved beyond Congress arenas and spilled onto social media spaces.

For a while, the voice of Ebira youth, a voice that is usually strong and clear at critical moments, was almost nowhere when Ebira needed to hear it most.

Concerns were raised from different quarters across the Ebira nation, illustrious sons and daughters grew worried and called for peace.

So, in line with its statutory mandate and in response to the calls, the Elders Council of the Congress stepped in. A five-member investigation/reconciliation committee was set up on 23rd January, 2026. The committee was led by Comrade Abubakar Momoh, with Dr. A.M. Rabiu as Secretary. They were joined by Comrade Gomina Kadir, Comrade Sheikh Mamman, and Builder Yusuf Hassan Yusuf.

For about eight weeks, this team sat down six to seven times. They didn’t just meet; they listened to everyone: those at the center of the disagreement and those caught in the middle. Nobody was shut out.

On 1st May, 2026, the committee brought forward its findings before the Council. It was thoroughly reviewed with open minds. The Council took time to listen to honest feedback (complaints and observations) from all sides and made the right adjustments. Emerging from that work is a White Paper, a clear plan that faces the issues directly and shows a fair way forward.

To lock in this peace, the Elders Council tasked four of its own to go further: Dr. Haroun Opotu, the Council Chairman; Comrade Gomina Kadir, a former PG; Comrade Sheikh Mamman, a former PG; and Baba Abdulrazak. Their assignment was simple but important: to sit with every party involved and secure one promise- one Congress, one family, one future.

Today, it can be said with gratitude that orderliness has returned and the Congress is back on its feet.

The President-General, Comrade Ahmed Saka Bachido; Deputy President-General, Comrade Shehu Zuberu; and Secretary-General, Comrade Ilyas Abdulsalam, have all pledged to unity and progress of the Congress. They have also offered sincere apologies to the Elders Council, to Ebira youths worldwide, to our senior citizens, and to every friend and supporter of the umbrella youth organization hurt by this  momentary setback.

The Elders Council of the Congress accepts those apologies in the spirit of family. Sure, the pain is behind us. The work is ahead of us!

With this chapter closed, EYC is ready to stand up again- stronger, wiser, and more united- to serve our people and humanity.

From the bottom of its heart, the Elders Council thanks every individual, group, and elder who stood for peace. Your patience, your calls, your prayers carried the Congress through the storm. We ask you to keep standing with us as we move forward.

The full White Paper will be shared with the public soon.

Signed:

Baba Abdulrazak
For and on behalf of the Elders Council.
