The concerned citizens of Ajaokuta LGA deem it extremely important and very necessary to write this open appeal letter to Hon. Lawal Muhammadu Idirisu of APC not to take the path of his political antecedents by abandoning the APC again because APC is not a joker political party that can be toyed with.
To set the records straight, we wish to remind Hon. Lawal Idirisu of his political defections, dating back from 2015 till date, drawing his attention back to his inconsistency as he is known for his quick abandoning of his political party for another one whenever he fails to get what he wants.
1. Prior to 2015, at the build up of political activities ahead of the general elections, Hon. Lawal Idirisu joined the PDP to contest for the Ajaokuta House of Representatives. While he failed to secure the PDP ticket due to Hon. Aloysius Okino's dominance in the PDP then, he immediately abandoned the PDP and joined the APC, and at the eleventh hour, he hijacked the APC ticket from the leaders of the young APC then and ran for the Ajaokuta House of Representatives. However, due to the tsunami of APC at the time, the unknown Hon. Lawal Idirisu in Ajaokuta politics won the election because Nigeria, at the time wanted a change in government so electorates massively voted for the APC because PDP failed Nigerians at all level.
2. In 2019, Hon. Lawal Idirisu contested for a second term for the House of Reps, still under the APC. At the time, there was a serious gangup against his second term ambition due, largely to his underperformance. The heat was much on ground then from amongst the strong caucus of Ajaokuta APC members to stall his ticket for a second term but the then governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello who is a detribalized kogi leader stopped the move to short changed Alh. Lawal's candidacy. Even Hon. Samson Bako, from the same zone with him contested to get the ticket against Hon. Lawal but former governor Yahaya Bello stopped the entire move and handed Hon. Lawal Idirisu the ticket for a second term and committed the entire Ajaokuta APC members to work for him. That move by the then governor Yahaya Bello gave Hon. Lawal a smooth ride to win his reelection in 2019. Even after that, he never voted for Yahaya Bello's reelection, he romanced with Engr. Wada, the PDP candidate against Yahaya Bello, joined the orchestrated agenda against the reelection of Yahaya Bello and directed his supporters to vote for Engr. Wada of the PDP. The results of that election is still intact and evident.
3. In the build up of 2023 political activities, Hon. Lawal Idirisu conceived a third term agenda and launched his re-election bid to the House of Reps for a third term. This move was massively refuted by the citizens, hence, the emergence of Hon. Sanni Abdulraheem, the current serving House of Reps member. While Alh. Lawal failed to get the APC ticket for his third term agenda, he again, abandoned the APC, switched to pitch a tent with NNPP, a platform he used to contest the 2023 House of Reps elections but he failed woefully. The then governor Yahaya Bello begged Hon. Lawal to remain in APC, the platform that gave him eight years as a House of Reps member. He refused to step down his desperate ambition and went ahead to contest against the government that worked for him previously. He left APC again and contested in NNPP because he wanted to test his political capacity but was beaten hands down by Hon. Sanni Abdulraheem of the APC. During Kogi Guber elections of 2024, Hon. Lawal Idirisu was quick to align himself with the acclaimed "AGENDA" of Muritala Ajaka, the guber Candidate of the SDP, a movement that was formed to checkmate the election of governor Usman Ododo. Election results from his ward showed it clearly that he voted against APC/gov. Usman Ododo during that election.
4. Sometime in 2025, as another build up to general elections ahead of 2027 begins, Hon. Lawal Idirisu romanced his way back into the rulling APC again. After coming to APC and working together with other stakeholders, he came back to limelight and relevance, only for him to relaunch his long time failed third term agenda against the wish of the people.
As concerned citizen of Ajaokuta LGA, we advise that wherever the pendulum points to, he should remain in APC and not to jump again into another party just for his selfish interst. We advise him to believe in others and not only himself. He should learn to stand for others and not for himself always because others stood for him during his time.
The Hon. Sanni Abdulraheem that we know is a strong and committed party man and will always work for his party, APC, irrespective of what happens so we are begging Hon. Lawal Muhammadu Idirisu not to jump from APC to another party again if, at the end of the day, he is not lucky enough to get the APC ticket for 2027, let him stay and work for the party he believes in. This is how to be a true party man and a patriotic citizen.
