From Silence to Skyline: How a particular Commissioner is Transforming Kogi

Leadership is fundamentally about service; meeting the expectations of the people and delivering results that leave lasting impact. When a square peg is placed in a square hole, the outcome is not only evident but produces a multiplier effect across governance and development.

His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, in his wisdom, has carefully selected men and women to lead ministries, departments, and agencies of government. Among his many achievements is his ability to recognize competence, entrusting capable leaders with the responsibility of transforming his vision into reality. One shining example is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, ably led by the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Abanika Taiye.

Hon. Abanika Taiye is not one for noise or self-praise; instead, he allows his results to speak. With humility and determination, he has positioned the Ministry as a tool for creating legacies that will stand the test of time under Governor Ododo’s administration.

The Ministry has supervised and delivered some of the most iconic infrastructure projects across Kogi State. These include the completion of the ultra-modern library at Kogi State University, Kabba, with ongoing construction of the state-of-the-art Senate building, lecture theatres, and male and female hostels. At the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, the Ministry has overseen the construction of the magnificent Senate building, lecture theatres, engineering faculty, laboratories, and student hostels. At Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, modern laboratories, hostel accommodations, consultant lodges, and offices are being built to improve the learning environment. In Lokoja, the ultra-modern market at Zone 8 is taking shape as a landmark commercial hub, while the Kogi State Audit House stands out as one of the most remarkable additions to effective governance, symbolizing accountability and transparency.

That such a young ministry created less than two years ago has achieved this level of infrastructural transformation is proof of efficient management and purposeful leadership by Hon. Abanika Taiye. His ability to drive projects of this magnitude underscores the wisdom of Governor Ododo in choosing the right man for the job.

The Honourable Commissioner’s success is also enabled by the support of notable political leaders who have created a conducive atmosphere for progress. Among them are Alhaji Ali Bello, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kogi State, and Hon. Abdulraheem Sanni Egidi, Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency and political leader of the area, who has offered immense guidance and encouragement.

With continued commitment and encouragement, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is well positioned to drive urban renewal and infrastructural transformation across Kogi State. Today, we celebrate a worthy ambassador of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo in person of Hon. Abanika Taiye, a quiet achiever whose works speak volumes. We pray for continued success for the government of Kogi State under Governor Ododo’s purposeful leadership.
